Brief History behind company founder and HawaiiMana™
After a career in video and media production, including several years of producing live events around the US and Asia,
HawaiiMana™ founder and CEO, Dave Ohlson, began to suffer health related issues resulting from his declining attention to his own health and fitness.
In his early years as a professional athlete, Dave developed a keen interest in health and fitness and worked with some of the country’s leading wellness visionaries. Contributing then to what would become the current “X Games” as well as other extreme sports events, he responded to extreme levels of physical performance demands as a professional athlete by working with early pioneers and leaders in the fields of Sports Conditioning, Bio Feed Back, Kinesiology, Holistic Medicine, Nutrition and Supplemental Formulations. After his career as a professional athlete, Dave attended the Trebas Institute in Hollywood Ca, for Recording Engineering and Media Production. However, after several years of producing media events around the world, his health began to suffer and resulted in having to have life threatening heart surgery.
The irony was that Dave also was working to promote and produce events with leading wellness professionals and had access to some of the best fitness information, wellness and motivational gurus on the planet yet still found himself at such a critical crossroad. As Dave likes to point out, “we all basically know what to do, we just don’t always do what we know. I got to the point where I was too busy and just plain lazy and vapor locked on a career to keep the balance” as he recalls it. Dave finally had his “ah ha” moment laying in a hospital bed. Say’s Dave, ” I was fit and surfing big Hawaii surf until I was 45 or so and just didn’t see the next 10 years coming as fast as it did, I never thought open heart surgery could happen to me but it did!”
It was also at that moment that he realized there are milions of people just like him who have let the riggers and demands of work, family and general stesses of life side track and distract them from the importance of placing the right priority on wellness and good health. He felt that if it was as easy as it was for him to lose his balance even with all of the influences towards good health around him since early teens, that the same can happen to anyone. Thus the idea to transform his life (and career) back to one of passion, health wellness and true contribution began.
In his quest to restore his “natural” health and wellness without the aid or dependence of pharmaceutical medications, Dave began looking for the right nutrient solutions to assist his healing process and quickly discovered the startling truth about the inferior supplement products being sold to the public. Specifically, his interest and passion for nutrition peeked upon discovering the truth about the “de-natured” or “damaged” protein powders that saturate the market while working with wellness expert and nutrition legend, Dr David Allen. David is a graduate from the Trebas Institute of Recording Arts, an industry school for media production to the studio system of Hollywood with internships in production at A&M Records and Red Zone studios. In his early years as a professional athlete, Mr. Ohlson developed a keen interest in health and fitness. Recent projects include the development and certification of a 6000 fitness trainer network in South Korea Japan and China, production of the “Instone Fitness” DVD with Hollywood film star Sylvester Stallone and sports celebrity trainer and Hollywood fitness guru to the Stars, Gunnar Peterson. Barbara Allen – Consumer Wellness Education
Barbara is a leadership trainer, organizer, effective problem solver, with over two decades of experience in the wellness industry, direct sales, administration, customer services, and fiscal management. Barbara has a deep belief that leadership is a matter of character-”leadership is a matter of how to be, not how to do it”. Barbara Allen attended the University of Cincinnati and Wright State University in Ohio. She is also a Wellness Educator and Touch for Health Instructor and an authority on Women’s Health and Nutrition. Barbara spent three years assisting Maesimund B. Michael Madgett, Legal Advisor
Michael Madgett of San Diego’s prestigious Higgs, Fletcher and Mack LLC law firm is responsible for ensuring that all LogixNow agreements and requirements, corporate regulations, any corporate compliance issues are met. Michael has broad based corporate and business transactional experience, with expertise in corporate and securities, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, intellectual property licensing and distribution, Internet and e-commerce law. He holds a degree in finance as well as law and has been a practicing attorney since 1986.
Marcel East, Creative Advisor
Music and multimedia producer, Marcel East, of East to East Productions is Director of
HawaiiMana™ Media. Marcel, and his brother Nathan, have tremendous background in the recording, television, and movie soundtrack industry. The East brothers have been a creative force behind music super stars like Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Barbara Streisand and the jazz super-group Fourplay. The songs they’ve written and recordings they have produced have generated hundreds of millions of dollars for the recording industry. Phil Black, Chief Fitness Advisor
Phil Black, former Navy SEAL Instructor and father of twins is the founder of FitDeck, Inc. The idea for FitDeck originated from a card game (originally called ‘PUG’) Phil created as an undergraduate (see The FitDeck Story). Phil graduated from Yale University and Harvard Business School. Prior to graduate school, Phil spent two years as investment banker for Goldman, Sachs & Co., and over five years as a Navy SEAL Officer deployed around the world. Today, he is the Founder and President of FitDeck, Inc. and works as a fitness consultant, motivational speaker, and personal trainer. Phil, his wife, and twin sons live in San Diego, CA.
Eric Austin – Controller
Eric is a 1979 graduate of Arizona State University with a major in accounting, and received his MBA from the University of Hawaii with an emphasis on international business and corporate strategy. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Hawaii. Over the past 15 years Eric has served in various management consulting, CPA, and interim executive roles. His professional career began as a CPA for the international accounting firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co.
In 1983 he joined Dillingham Construction Corps as international accounting manager for the Pacific Division which comprised operations and subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, and Australia. He was responsible for all accounting, reporting, and budgeting. He oversaw the foreign accountants, and was directly responsible for US consolidation, reporting and cash management.
Later, he was promoted to Controller of Dillingham Corporation’s Rock Products Pacific Division, in which he was responsible for strategic planning, credit and finance, accounting and information systems, and investment analysis.
In 1989 Eric served as VP and Controller for Hawaii Restaurant Services, a start-up distribution and warehousing company which grew from initial sales of $650,000 to over $40,000,000 in three years. He oversaw all areas of accounting and budgeting, administration, IT, finance and credit.
Ju-ho Hong, Operations Director, Korea
Ju-ho “Joe” Jung, is an Director of Korean Marketing for HawaiiMana™. “Big Joe” or “Trainer Joe” as he is affectionally referred to by many, provides personal training services many of Korea’s top movie starts and entertainers, including celebrities Bae Yong-joon, Choi Ji-woo, Baek Jin-yeon, Lee Seo-jin and many others. Acknowledged as the top male personal trainer in South Korea, Joe responds to frequent media requests for fitness information and assistance, including modeling and consulting and is a frequent guest on Korea television. Joe, through his personal web site, has established himself as one of the top trainers in demand for South Korea and developed a network of other top trainers in the country. Joe is also an author of top selling books and DVD’s and is an influential voice of new products, concepts, and services to thousands of personal trainers and the general fitness market in South Korea.
Joe has a number of certifications: Diving, Weight Trainer Level I (Douglas College, BC Canada), Weight Trainer Level II (Korea Bodybuilding Federation), Fitness Trainer Level III (Seoul), British Sub-Aqua Club (Ocean Diver, Open Water Diver), Taekwondo Black Belt Level III.
